visiting
the
ancient
underground
city of
Kaymakli
on
route.
Stay

in
Cappadocia.
DAY
2:
CAPPADOCIA
Traveling
trough
this
mystical
landscape
in
Central
Anatolia,
we will
visit
the
natural
wonders
of
Pasabagi
and
Devrent
Valley;
the
natural
rock
castles
at
Ortahisar
and
Uchisar;
Avanos
and the
beautiful
open -
air
museums
at Zelve
and
Goreme,
where
the
remains
of
churches
and
Christian
settlements
date
back
thousands
of
years.
Overnight
in
Cappadocia.
DAY
3:
HATTUSAS
Transfer
to
Hattusas,
where we
will
visit
the
remains
of a
capital
city of
one of
the most
important
civilizations
in
Anatolia,
Hittite,
and
Yazilikaya,
an open
- air
temple.
Overnight
in
Samsun.
DAY
4:
SAMSUN
We have
now left
Anatolia
for the
lush -
green,
tea -
rich
hilly
countryside
of the
Black
Sea.
Samsun
is a
good
starting
point
where we
can
explore
the
Ethnography
and
Ataturk
museums
with
their
excellent
mosaic
and coin
collections.
Then
following
the
Black
Sea
coast
road we
head
east to
Trabzon
where we
stay
overnight.
DAY 5:
TRABZON
Trabzon,
founded
originally
by the
kingdom
of
Miletus,
is the
largest
city in
the
Black
Sea
region.
Here we
visit
the
Hagia
Sophia
Museum
with its
spectacular
frescoes.
Inland
we visit
the
mystical
Sumela
Monastery,
built
into the
side of
a steep
cliff
face,
which
dates
back to
early
Christianity.
Overnight
in Kars.
DAY
6:
KARS
-
DOGUBEYAZIT
Kars,
originally
an
Armenian
city,
still
has fine
examples
of
Armenian
architecture,
one of
which is
the
breath -
taking
site of
Ani
situated
on the
Armenian
-
Turkish
border.
From Ani
we head
south.
This
time on
the
Iranian
border,
we visit
the
Isaac
Pasa
Sarayi
at
Dogubeyazit,
a
seventeenth
century
palace
perched
on a
mountain,
surreal
and
mysterious,
overshadowed
by the
magnificent
Mount
Ararat.
Stay
overnight
in
Dogubeyazit.
DAY
7:
VAN
We
transfer
to Van,
resting
on route
to take
in the
superb
views at
Muradiye
Waterfall.
In Van
we visit
the
imposing
Rock of
Van,
upon
which
once
stood an
Urartian
castle.
Catching
the
ferryboat
we also
make a
trip
across
Turkey’s
largest
lake,
Van Lake
to
Akdamar
Island
to view
an
exquisite
example
of an
Armenian
church.
Overnight
in Van.
DAY
8:
After
breakfast,
transfer
to the
airport
for your
flight
to
Istanbul.
